Villeroy de Galhau says France has to “spend better” to reduce debt

François Villeroy de Galhau has declared victory over inflation in France and the eurozone more broadly.

“We have won the battle against inflation in Europe, and we had already won it in France some time ago,” the Banque de France governor told TV outlet France 2 on June 6. He added that annual inflation in France was currently “under 1%”.

The governor was speaking the day after the European Central Bank had cut rates and ECB president Christine Lagarde said annual inflation in the eurozone in May
